Balvenie Single Barrel 15
Balvenie Single Barrel 15 year old
Cask 3442; Placed in cask 4/23/1992; bottled 9/20/2007

Second tasting:
Glenfarclas 12

We met at the home of Edith and Kevin Gaw.  David and Art were unable to attend, so we had Larry and Diane Shaffett join in with the group.  We started with the Balvenie 15 and after a break and snacks enjoyed the Glenfarclas 12.  Both were quite enjoyable.

We discussed the possibility of a combined Chapter I and II get together with a professional nose and we unanimously agreed that we should try to put something together later this year.  I will discuss opportunities with Bruce Douglas.

Kevin and Craig are members of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society and have had the opportunity to taste several unique unfiltered single cask single malt Scotch whisky.  At one of our future meetings I hope to share one of them with the club.
Balvenie 15 Tasting Notes
Color
Golden honey.
Nose
Burnt toffee, salt, oak, and dry grass.
Flavor
Oily, salty, spicey with honey sweetness.
Finish
Lazy, long, peppery finish with salt and liquorice.
Brief Comment
Comments were quite variable -- overall a complex enjoyable single malt which was a bit too salty and tangy for some of the members.  (That explains the score range from 74 to 93!)
